Jen-Yu CHIEN
(Master of Percussion Performance, the Taipei National University of the Arts)
Jen-Yu graduated with a Master’s Degree from the Graduate Institute of Orchestral Instruments of the Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA).
He was born in Luodong, Yilan. Jen-Yu is currently the Co-Director of the Punch Percussion Group and a member of the Twincussion Duo.
Jen-Yu came in contact with percussion at a very young age and developed a deep passion in Marimba through the blessing from many percussion teachers.
During his school days at the National Taiwan Normal University, Jen-Yu was a member of the symphony orchestra and was privileged to
tour with the orchestra in the United States and Australia. Jen-Yu joined the Ju Percussion Group and participated in countless performances which allowed him to accumulate invaluable experiences. Jen-Yu was invited to the stage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the Sacheon Percussion Festival in Korea, the Shenzhen Music Hall and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. While studying at graduate school, Jen-Ting was honored with the “Guandu Emerging Young Artists Concert” Ensemble Competition Award. He also collaborated with the TNUA Percussion Group and the TNUA Philharmonic Orchestra and visited the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, Toho Gakuen School of Music, the Musashino Academia Musicae both in Tokyo, and to Paris as a visiting percussionist. In June of 2014, Jen-Yu competed and achieved second place in the duo category in the Southern California International Marimba Competition. After establishing the Punch Percussion Group, Jen-Yu continues to be
creative in the music and to devote in exploring new paths at the Taiwan percussion stage.
Teaching Experience:
Percussion teacher at the Juvenile Percussion Ensemble and Zhongshan Elementary School. Drum set teacher at the Victoria Arts Center. Paced learning instructor for teachers at Taoyuan area elementary schools. Paced learning and performance instructor at Cathay United Bank, Foxconn Technology Group, and YPO (the Young President’s Organization). Currently the percussion teacher at Chung Dau High School, Dazhi High School, and Nan Chiang Industrial and Commerce High School.
